Featured Artist, June 2-9: Felicia Flesch

Artist’s Statement:

Hi! I’m Felicia, a fiber and ceramic artist living in Beechmont. I was born in northern Ohio and moved to Louisville about three years ago. I earned my Studio Art degree from Berea College in 2017, and when I’m not working on my art, I’m the Museum Educator at a contemporary art museum. My job allows me to help kids see the world through an artistic lens and watch them develop a lifelong appreciation for the creative process.

My work blends traditional craft with a contemporary twist, and I’m always exploring new ways to bring texture, color, and pattern into my pieces. In my spare time I enjoy reading on a blanket in the park, riding around on our tandem bike with my partner, or snuggling with my sweet cat, Ellie. I also love experimenting with new craft techniques and doing puzzles when I need a break from creating.

About the artist:

Leah Hughes is a lifelong South End resident, multimedia artist, licensed clinicial social worker, and political researcher.

Her works explore the intersection of conceptual art history, building construction and historic preservation, and working class narrative themes.

She has been creating sketchbooks by hand for almost 20 years for collecting bits of trash, drawings, notes, and other ephemera.

This sketchbook was created with scraps of plexiglass, hemp binding, and alternating pages of bristol paper and translucent mylar in each signature to enable layering of textures and images.

Featured Artist, May 19-26: Cortlan Waters Bartley, CWB Designs

About the artist:

Cortlan’s journey into the world of hand lettering and calligraphy wasn’t scripted; it was a tale of accidental discovery and relentless enthusiasm. A self-taught artist, what began as a simple exploration soon blossomed into a revelation: the power of words to convey joy, inspiration, and connection.

With each creation, Cortlan discovered a sense of fulfillment in bringing her thoughts and emotions to life, and as her confidence grew, Cortlan began sharing her newfound skill with those closest to her.

In the spirit of sharing, in 2019, CWB Designs was born—a labor of love infused with Cortlan’s blend of creativity and authenticity. CWB, an acronym for Cortlan’s initials, is not just a name, it’s her personal commitment to crafting hand lettered treasures that spoke directly to the heart.

Featured Artist, May 12-19: Amy Talbott

Artist Statement

All of my work is inspired by everyday things. The homes we live in, and the objects that make our lives more comfortable and enjoyable. I like to think I bring fun and personality to all the objects I draw. My current favorite subjects are running shoes and things found around campsites.

I draw custom house portraits for clients, which you can find more about on my website. I have also recently started offering shoe portraits for runners and walkers who want to commemorate a big race or other milestone.

Artist Statement

Fiber artwork is a fairly new interest for me. But it’s been very rewarding. The art piece makes me feel the transition of spring to summer with things fluctuate constantly. Rain, growth, warm weather and changing landscapes.

Featured Artist, April 20-27: Olivia Bunger

Artist Statement

I am drawn to reflecting on personal trauma and processing childhood memories through surrealism, found objects and naturalism. I am exploring themes of childhood trauma, neglect, and unstable home life through mixed media collage, oils, and acrylic paint. I enjoy making surreal visuals of homes, nostalgic interiors, and fantastical scenes juxtaposed with striking textures and colors. I have been drawing and painting in Louisville for over 15 years. I am passionate about maintaining sustainable art practices and learning about ourselves through deep reflection.

Featured Artist, April 13-20: Jon Buckley

Artist Statement

I create vibrant, psychedelic artwork on wood canvas under the name Poisoned by Toxins Art. My pieces blend bold fluorescent colors with abstract patterns inspired by nature and 90's nostalgia. Some even glow under blacklight for an extra trippy effect. When I’m not painting, I’m out exploring trails with my mini Aussie, Trinket, immersing with local wildlife, and delving into lore and haunts.

It all begins with an idea.

Artist Statement:

“Le Grande Pigeon is my first completed paper mache project, inspired by the love of birds my wife and I share. A few community members liked it when shown at the Art & Craft Exchange Party in March, giving me the confidence needed to share it here. I hope you enjoy this large pigeon.”
